Driving Position Setup
The two-minute seat ritual racing schools teach, as a checklist you tap through sitting in the car. Order matters — each step assumes the one before it. Free handling upgrade included.

Hips all the way back into the seat, weight even. Everything else is measured from here.
Pedal distance
Press the furthest pedal to the floor. Your knee should stay clearly bent — around 120°, never straight.
Backrest & reach
Shoulders on the seat, arm straight: your wrist should rest on top of the wheel rim. Adjust the backrest until it does.
Wheel height & depth
Pull the wheel toward you and down until the gauges stay visible and your hands sit at 9 and 3 with bent elbows.
Head restraint
Center of the restraint at eye height, as close to the back of your head as the car allows. It's a crash part, not a pillow.
Mirrors last
Set mirrors only now, from the final position — door mirrors just losing your own bodywork, interior framing the whole rear window.
Belt check
Lap belt low and tight across the hips, shoulder belt flat mid-shoulder, no twists. Snug now saves centimetres in a stop.

Order matters: pedals before reach, reach before wheel, mirrors dead last.
Why a ritual and not a diagram
Every body is different; the method is not. Diagrams show someone else's legs. The racing-school approach is a sequence of physical tests — pedal to the floor, wrist to the rim — that calibrate the car to your proportions in two minutes, in any car, without measuring anything. That's why instructors reset every student's seat before the first lap: position is control, and most drivers sit like they're on a sofa.
The payoff is not just track-day car control. Correct geometry means less shoulder fatigue on motorways, faster steering corrections when something surprises you, and an airbag and head restraint that work as designed. It is the cheapest upgrade in motoring, and it costs two minutes per car.

FAQ
With shoulders against the seat, a wrist resting on the rim puts your arms at the bend racing schools want: full 180° of steering without pulling a shoulder off the backrest, and enough bend to absorb steering forces without locked elbows.
A locked knee cannot modulate pressure and transmits crash forces straight up the leg. Around 120° of bend gives braking leverage, ankle control and a safety margin.
