Mod order matters: the smart upgrade path
Why brakes and tires come before boost, and how to sequence a build that stays fast, safe and worth something when you sell it.
Every modified car is an argument about order. Two owners spend the same €5,000 on the same chassis and end up with different cars: one that flatters its driver, one that punishes them. The parts catalogue does not care what you buy first. Physics does. What follows is the sequence we hold to across the fleet, and the reasoning behind each step, so your budget builds a car instead of a list.
01 — Why order beats budget
The classic mistake is power first. It looks like the biggest gain per euro, and on a dyno sheet it is. But every extra horsepower raises the demands on the systems you have not touched yet: the tires must transmit more force, the brakes must shed more speed, the cooling must dump more heat, and the driver must manage all of it at once. Spend on the engine first and you have built a car that arrives at every corner faster than the rest of it can cope.
Order the same money differently and the character of the car changes. Grip and braking first mean each later upgrade lands on a platform that can carry it. The total spend never changes; the sequence is the difference between a car that is quick everywhere and one that is quick in a straight line and nervous everywhere else.

02 — Stage zero: make stock work
Before stage one there is stage zero: make the stock car work the way it was designed to. Fresh brake fluid and pads with real thickness left. Tires with life in them, set to correct pressures. An alignment to factory spec or a mild performance setting. Bushings, ball joints and mounts that are not a decade past their best. None of it is glamorous, and all of it is felt from the first corner.
A maintained stock car is faster than a neglected modified one, and it teaches you more about what the platform actually needs. Stage zero is also the only money in this guide that never depreciates the car: service history strengthens a sale, while a mod list gets argued down. If this year's budget only covers stage zero, that is still a good year.
03 — The sequence
Here is the order, one stage at a time. Note what sits at position four. Treating the driver as an explicit stage, with its own budget line, is the house position: seat time is the cheapest lap time you will ever buy, and it compounds through every stage that follows.

Skipping a stage does not save money. It defers the cost to a later stage, with interest, and usually collects it at the worst possible corner.
04 — Power, finally
By stage five the car can already out-corner and out-brake its own engine. That is the point. When grip and braking run ahead of power, extra output is a reward instead of a liability: you can use all of it, sooner, with margin left over for the day something goes wrong.
Two things to hold onto here. First, supporting mods scale with power — cooling, fuel delivery and the clutch all have ceilings, and discovering one on a track day is the expensive way to find it. Second, acceleration is the priciest performance you can buy: each 0.1s costs real money, and the curve steepens fast. Price the gain with the cost-per-tenth calculator before ordering parts, sanity-check the result against power-to-weight, and if the plan touches the final drive, run gear speeds too.
05 — Keep it reversible, keep it documented
The last rule spans every stage: reversible and documented, always. Mods with receipts, part numbers and a folder of invoices sell; the same hardware hacked in with cut looms and drilled holes subtracts more value than it ever cost. Box the stock parts. Note every wiring change. A build the next owner can audit is a build the next owner will pay for.
