Track Day Cost Index 2026
Entry is the advertised price. Fuel, tyres, brakes and the small stuff are the real invoice. Here is the number three ways, computed from lapcost's own cost model, and the cost per lap at 15 European circuits.
A European car track day costs €362.03 on lapcost's budget profile, €603.63 on its typical profile and €1,519.82 on its serious profile. The entry fee is 31% of the typical day. The rest is fuel, tyres, brakes, travel and a wear fund, and it arrives weeks later disguised as routine maintenance. Every figure on this page was computed on 9 September 2026 from the model inside lapcost ↗, using the same rule and the same default inputs the calculator loads for a European car. The July edition of this report was an editorial baseline; this edition is the arithmetic.
01 — What this index is
The Track Day Cost Index is lapcost's cost model run on its three published spending profiles, budget, typical and serious, for one full open-pitlane car day. The model has six categories: entry and fees, track fuel, travel and stay, tyres, brakes and service, and a wear fund. The rule is short. Entry is the fee plus insurance and coaching plus a share of season costs. Fuel is sessions times litres per session times the pump price. Tyres are the set price divided by the days a set lasts, and brakes work the same way for pads, discs and an oil service. Travel is distance, road consumption, tolls and food. Cost per lap is the day divided by the laps a typical lap time fits into 120 minutes of track time.
Be clear about what the inputs are. They are lapcost's default values for a European car, calibrated in euros at its Jul 2026 exchange rates, and every one of them is editable on the calculator. They are not averaged telemetry: lapcost runs in your browser and stores nothing, so there is nothing to average. What this index adds is the arithmetic, done once, in the open, so the three profiles can be compared line by line and the same day can be priced per lap at fifteen circuits.
02 — The three profiles
The budget profile is a regional circuit, a €480 tyre set that lasts 9 days, gentle brake wear. The typical profile is the calculator's default day. The serious profile adds track insurance, coaching, a hotel, a seventh session, a €1,400 tyre set that lasts 4 days, and a share of season fixed costs.

Note the shape of the numbers. Entry is under 40% of the total on every profile: 36% on budget, 31% on typical, 39% on serious. The serious day costs 4.2 times the budget day, and most of that gap is tyres and brakes, not the entry fee.
03 — The consumables nobody budgets
On the typical profile, fuel is the most predictable of the invisible lines: 6 sessions of 20 minutes burn 54 litres at €1.75, which is €94.50. It is also the only consumable you pay for on the day itself, which is why it is the only one people remember.
Tyres are the slow bill. A €900 set that lasts 6 track days is €150.00 a day, the largest single line after entry. Brakes behave the same way: €220 of pads over 8 days is €27.50, €380 of discs over 16 days is €23.75, and a €140 oil and fluids service every 4 days is €35.00, so brakes and service come to €86.25 a day. Neither number appears anywhere on the day. Both are real.

Then the lines that are not consumables: travel and stay at €58.88 for the default 220 km round trip with tolls and food, and a €25.00 wear fund for bushings, fluids and the odd broken bit. Fuel, tyres, brakes and the wear fund together are 59% of the typical day.
04 — Cost per lap, by circuit
A day rate is abstract. Cost per lap is what the last three laps of a tired session actually cost, and it depends on the lap time, because 120 minutes of track time fit far more laps at a short circuit than at a long one. The table prices the same typical day at the 15 European circuits in lapcost's circuit library, using each circuit's typical track-day lap time. The spread is 9.2 to one. Brands Hatch Indy fits 116.1 laps of 1:02 into the day and prices each at €5.20; Nordschleife (BTG) fits 12.6 laps of 9:30 and prices each at €47.79. The median European lap on this profile is €10.73. The same money, the same car, the same six categories: the circuit decides how many laps you get for it.
05 — How to use it
As a baseline, not a bill. Your car moves every line: a light hatchback undercuts the tyre and brake rows, a heavy fast car can double them. Run your own numbers in lapcost ↗. It takes your entry fee, consumption and consumable prices and returns your figure instead of the defaults.
